Posters and Judging for Big Ideas contest

This year's CITRIS White Paper student competition received another set of fantastic, innovative proposals, full of enthusiasm and great ideas for using IT in the service of society. The judges had a very difficult time narrowing them down to the top twelve finalists, who will participate in Friday’s poster session.

The top twelve, in no particular order, are:

• Integrated Diabetes Management, led by Christopher Hannemann at UC Berkeley

• StatNews, led by Yanpei Chen at UC Berkeley

• Game-Based Disaster Emergency Response Training, led by Kenneth Hullett at UC Santa Cruz

• Minimally Obtrusive Wearable Device for Continuous Interactive Cognitive and Neurological Assessment, led by Antoni Ivorra at UC Berkeley

• Coupling Wind Generators with Deferrable Loads, led by Anthony Papavasiiou at UC Berkeley

• Software Development for Civic Engagement, led by Elijah Saxon at UC Santa Cruz

• VillageMap: An Annotated Interactive Repository for Monitoring Rural Development Projects in India, led by Rabin Patra at UC Berkeley

• Application of Bayesian Networks to Infrastructure Risk Management, led by Michelle Bensi at UC Berkeley

• Second Opinion: A Collaborative Online Game for Medical Diagnosis, led by Ephrat Bitton at UC Berkeley

• Living with Wildland Fires: Enhancing Community Resilience through Virtual Reality, led by Renaud Vidal at UC Berkeley

• Bringing Reliable Power and Mobile Communication to West Africa to Improve Emergency Obstetric Care, led by Laura E. Stachel at UC Berkeley

• Oakland Blues, led by the Digital Design Research Group (Architecture) and Interactive Storytelling Group (Journalism) at UC Berkeley

 

Students from each of these groups will present a poster on their project and be interviewed by the judges, followed by the presentation of the final awards.
