Abstract:
Measurement is at the heart of many of the most exciting
and challenging problems in technology today. Following a brief introduction to
Agilent Technologies and Agilent Laboratories, the company's longer-range
central R&D organization, Darlene Solomon will discuss key trends for
electronic and bio-analytical measurement. She will provide examples of how
breakthrough technologies enabled by Agilent Laboratories are changing the game
for customers. She'll close with examples of technologies and markets that will
be increasingly important in the coming decade, and innovative approaches to new
business creation that Agilent is taking to address those
opportunities.
Biography:
Dr. Solomon joined Hewlett-Packard
Laboratories in 1984 as a member of the technical staff, subsequently holding a
variety of research and management positions there, including R&D Manager
for the Chemical and Biological Systems Department. She joined Agilent
Technologies when the company was formed in 1999. Prior to being named to her
current post, Solomon held the dual role of director of the Life Sciences
Technologies Laboratory within Agilent Labs, as well as senior director,
research and development/technology, for Agilent's Life Sciences and Chemical
Analysis business.
She received
her bachelor's degree in chemistry from Stanford University and a doctorate in
inorganic chemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. With
numerous patents and publications to her name, Solomon was inducted into the
Women in Technology International's Hall of Fame in 2001.
