The CITRIS Special Interest Group ' Japan (SIG-J) is a group of industry, academic, and governmental leaders being launched with the goals of promoting strong relations and close collaborations between CITRIS researchers and Japanese industry and governments.

Presentations from this day are online at CITRIS-SIG-J/presentations

PURPOSE:

  • To activate an interest in the CITRIS research and its application to real-world problems, with an emphasis on developing relationships with Japanese industry, government, academia and society.
  • To better understanding of Japanese interest and requirements for proactive CITRIS participation.
  • To make the interactions with the U.S.-based research efficient and productive, through a program of selected benefits to members in Japan.
  • To explore various models of future research collaborations between CITRIS researchers and Japanese industry, governments, academia and society

This meeting was held in conjunction with our CITRIS ' Asia Meeting on April 10, which was  largely a technical review of some of the major research topics within CITRIS and set the stage for our discussion on April 11th.

It is our initial vision that SIG-J activities will mostly activate an interest in CITRIS research applications to real-world problems. To make the interactions with the U.S.-based research efficient and productive, we envision several important benefits of this organization:

(1)   CITRIS SIG-J News Letter in Japanese. The News Letter will be the same one that we publish in English bi-monthly (publications/newsletter) and covers CITRIS news, events, and introductions to various CITRIS research activities.

 (2)   Japanese link to CITRIS Home Page.

 (3)   Information access to all open CITRIS research results.

 (4)   Invitation-based participation to CITRIS corporate sponsor events.

 (5)   Invitation to an annual CITRIS SIG-J global meeting in Asia.

 (6)   Periodic (perhaps quarterly) SIG-J local meetings in Japan.

 (7)   Invited lectures by CITRIS researchers when the researchers visit Japan.

 (8)   Whenever possible, assistance in communicating with CITRIS researchers.  <!--[endif]-->

Our goal is to make SIG-J a financially self-sustainable activity in CITRIS. We are currently envisioning about 10 ' 15 corporate members from Japan in the SIG-J group, each contributing about $15 k per year to its operation; more participants bring more services and/or less cost for each member.

The member Companies that are Founding and Platinum Corporate Sponsors of CITRIS (partners/corporate) will have already contributed sufficiently to have their SIG-J dues covered. Other companies involved with CITRIS-affiliated centers (partners/centers) may also be eligible for this kind of membership.
