Abstract:
The mobile phone platform has an amazing potential to become a new class of personal computing device that revolutionizes the way we interact with information, the environment around us, and each other. Although currently focused on direct human-to-human communication through voice, text messaging, and pictures, the emerging computation capabilities of these devices are poised to turn them into a prominent players in well-connected mobile computation ecosystems. This talk will cover several aspects of this exciting platform, starting with some basic emerging trends and capabilities, a detailed investigation into how the platform can be integrated with the environment around us, and some application examples that demonstrate the power of integrating a personal mobile device with the infrastructure around us.
