Abstract:

Structural health monitoring integrates new wireless MEMS sensor technology and methodologies for assessing the condition of structural systems. In this seminar, several applications of Wireless Sensor Networks in Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) and smart structures are discussed, and instrumentation of a few testbeds, including the Golden Gate bridge is presented.

Local damage detection and distributed system identification are two pressing issues in the area of SHM. New algorithms are being developed to allow localization of structural damage and also to find modal properties of the structure with limited communication of collected signals. The algorithms are discussed along with methods for validation.
