Please join us for "Enabling Wireless Entertainment Networks" by John Simons from Hitachi at noon on March 24 in 290 HMMB, UC Berkeley, as part of the Friday Research Exchange.

Abstract:
Wi-Fi is becoming ubiquitous for convenient access to the world-wide-web and for other applications including voice over IP. Now, as wireless physical layer data-rates continue to increase, industry focus is on the potential to support TV or video over wireless (VoW). However, the medium access control (MAC) software which controls radios has not evolved equally to support reliable video streaming, especially multiple, high-quality streams delivered over meaningful distances. This presentation outlines how we envisage WLANs to be used for video and describes some of the ways we can improve the quality of service (QoS) of this medium for video-centric applications.
