Abstract:
All across the planet, electrical utilities are struggling to balance growing electrical consumption with supply that has an increasingly weakening infrastructure. Demand Response measures bring the consumer into the market economy of electricity in order to reduce peak consumption and peak costs. With the advent of improved communications technology and controls systems, Demand Response programs are beginning to reach residential customers across the U.S. Yet, as with any new technology, the impact of demand response on people is not known. This presentation will introduce Demand Response and pilot programs, and discuss an approach to designing a Demand Response enabled thermostat with the complexities of the user in mind.
