Structure
Segments of Emissions Curves:
Each emissions curve has three segments: pre-peak, post-peak, and stabilization. Pre-peak and post-peak curve shapes are defined by the user. Stabilization emissions are assumed to be flat.
Data Structure: The data underlying Gas-CAP is grouped at several levels:
Targets & Rolled-up Totals: For the globe, each nation, and each sector, there are two summary curves: “Target” (dashed line) and “Total” (solid line). The Target curve represents the user’s desired goal. The Total curve represents the sum of the subcurves. For example, at the level of Nation X, the Target curve would be the user’s target emissions curve for that nation. The Total curve would be the summation of the sector subcurves within that nation.
Target and Total curves are used as points of comparison. For example, the summation of regional Totals equals the global Total. The global Total and the global Target are compared on both the emissions chart and the ppm chart.
