Lean Construction & Automation in Infrastructure Workshop
This is a two day workshop that looks at the issues and opportunities in creating a more efficiently built infrastructure. Participants and speakers include government officials, contractors, technology firms and researchers. This workshop intends to facilitate a conversation that leads to a common understanding of issues, the role of technology, procurement models, and the problems preventing their adoption in the industry. Conference Goals: Technology and processes are often developed separately. New technology innovations that are pushed onto the market often fail to make an impact. In the conference, owners, designers, contractors, researchers and technology developers share their knowledge from both sides of view – Lean Construction and Automation Technology. During the workshop participants will: · Share information on Lean Construction and the latest innovations in automation technology in infrastructure · Expand the insight of the participants on how to design project production systems for infra projects · Find new potential common research areas · Create new paradigms for: - Process development - Technology development - Business development and procurement - New services for users/costumers
The goal of the workshop is to converge the two points of views, Lean Construction and Automation, for developing infra project production systems so that the projects will · Decrease variation in production · Decrease waste · Encourage continuous development of new technologies · Increase the productivity of the organizations · Add value to the costumers
Outcome: Joint understanding and agreement on the problems in the industry Creation of a Industry Working Group with a plan for future action White Paper report on workshop discussions
Hypothesis: The principles drawn from Lean Production Management can be applied to construction industry in general, and infrastructure projects in particular, through techniques tailored for application over the life of a project. Taken together these principles and techniques form the basis for a Lean Project Delivery System.™ Automation of technologies and standardization of processes are the tools for improving productivity and quality and reducing waste. In Infra sector automation means that 3D models have to be carried out from the beginning of a construction project to the end of the project (as–built model).
