Abstract:
This presentation will include an overview of the lighting research activities at the California Lighting Technology Center with a focus on demonstrations, commercialization, and integration within the codes and standards process. The California Lighting Technology Center is an innovation center established at UC Davis in collaboration with the California utilities, the California Energy Commission, and the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) with the mission of accelerating the development and market penetration of new lighting technologies. The presentation will include a description of ongoing research activities and emerging technologies, and it will highlight ongoing demonstration activities in California. Specific presentation topics will include the development of a smart lighting initiative as a statewide activity directed at the market adoption of responsive lighting systems for energy savings and demand response capability.  The smart lighting initiative includes new technologies for exterior lighting applications now being adopted by UCOP and included within the Title 24 process. Technology, demonstrations, and code process will be discussed, which will illustrate the industry and utility collaboration model developed at the California Lighting Technology Center.
