CITRIS Announces Launch of New Website Announcement by CITRIS Executive Director Gary Baldwin
Dear Corporate Sponsors, Faculty Researchers, and Friends of CITRIS,
It gives me great pleasure to announce the launching of a new CITRIS website (www.citris-uc.org)! Our website has been long due for an overhaul, and the team within CITRIS (led by Tao Starbow and Aaron Walburg) has done a wonderful job of reinvigorating the look and feel, but most importantly the content, of the website.
We invite your comments and feedback, as always. Please note, however, that we will continue to move content from the old website over to the new one over the next few weeks. During that time we ask that you bear with us as we try to make this transition as painless and transparent as possible.
Some things to note about the new website:
The introduction of a new logo (see image above). After a lot of thought and discussion, we have settled on a design that we believe better captures the concepts of “center of centers,” “multi-campus,” and “people-oriented.”
In the large banner near the top of the CITRIS home page (www.citris-uc.org), you will find a listing of the original 8 Driving Application areas for the Institute, with an overview of the origins of these focus topics. This information is also contained in the pull-down menu labeled “Research / Overview” in the uppermost horizontal toolbar. The links from this menu to the complete listing of CITRIS projects (the Project Matrix) are also repeated in the “CITRIS Research” box at the left and, for quicker access, under the link labeled “Project Matrix” within the CITRIS Research box.
Links to each of the four CITRIS campus websites can be activated by clicking on the campus name in the large banner.
CITRIS Corporate Sponsors will find links to their @CITRIS web pages, as well as to their corporate websites, in the box labeled “Corporate Sponsors.” Each “Corporate Sponsor@CITRIS” link leads to a special page that shows all the articles and events that relate to that particular sponsor. This information is updated automatically when we place an event on the calendar. Those of you who use RSS Feed Readers may subscribe to this block with a URL that is linked via the orange “Subscribe” tab at the bottom of the page.
The box labeled CITRIS Capital Projects will lead the reader to updates on the construction of new facilities on the Berkeley and Santa Cruz campuses. Since the completion of the Santa Cruz facility in its Engineering II Building, the main focus of this portion of the website will continue to be on the construction at Berkeley, for the time being at least.
The News and Highlights block in the center of our homepage will be updated frequently, usually twice per week. Please watch this space for important announcements and highlights of recent developments in the large suite of CITRIS research projects. Those of you who use RSS Feed Readers may subscribe to this block with the URL feed.
The CITRIS Calendar, at the right on the home page, will be updated on a daily basis as new events get scheduled. It is our intention to have all four CITRIS campuses put CITRIS-relevant events on this calendar, a feature not present with the calendar that we previously offered. The most imminent four events are listed at the bottom of the calendar for your convenience.
A special block with visitors’ information contains links to directions, maps, parking, and other relevant information that visitors to the four campuses might find useful.
Finally, a link to the CITRIS Newsletter, the current version as well as archival issues, is shown at the bottom-right of the page.
The software that we have employed to construct this website is rich with features, including member login, personal blog creation, article posting, and others. As we explore the use of these features (we’re learning too!) and add more functionality, we will keep you informed and apprised.
As always, we appreciate your comments, feedback, and suggestions. Thank you for your continuing support and interest in CITRIS!
Best regards,
Gary
