Major Areas of Focus for CITRIS "Next Big Themes"
In April of 2005, as CITRIS approached the end of its fourth year of existence, the faculty leaders met with representatives of the CITRIS Corporate Sponsors in a series of meetings to define a few areas of major focus for the next phase of CITRIS research.
Three themes emerged from those discussions:
- Services science, including an emphasis on cyber-infrastructure;
- Energy and environmental monitoring, building upon and leveraging the results of an enormous amount of sensor-network research done during the first four years ("launch phase") of CITRIS; and
- Information technology for radical improvements and cost savings in the delivery of health care.
The three links given below lead, in each case, to an expanded description of the plans and accomplishments, to date, in these three areas. Since the research agenda around each of these is evolving, we expect the content of these topical links to change and become updated frequently.
