SHORT-Range Ultra-Wideband Systems (MURI 2001 subcontract via USC) Proposal

The UC Berkeley effort will focus on the implementation of Ultra-WideBand (UWB) systems using CMOS technology. The focus will be to develop a design methodology that optimizes over all aspects of the UWB system design with a primary focus on reduction of the energy required for transmission and reception. The research on design of the CMOS analog and digital circuitry will be tightly coupled with the research from the characterization of the channel and design of the antennas.
A test bed will be constructed based on FPGA's and dedicated analog hardware and the new antennas being developed, that will allow the UWB systems to be tested and evaluated in real time.
